A lifetime jog
Linae was such a beautiful person, but if you knew her long enough, you would know that she doesn’t give herself enough credit. Yes, she does notice people noticing her, but she just doesn’t have part of the self-esteem needed to assess her creditability in life. She has done so much for her family and is an extremely devoted friend.
The night was suppose to soak the streets, according to the weather man… but when was the last time he was right? No, tonight was just a warm and the scent of change lingered in the air.
It was Saturday and everyone was out and doing their things. The teenage mind set of a “Saturday” was like a group of cavemen who had just brought home that 400 pound Saber tooth tiger.
Everyone was happy when it was Saturday.
Linae was out with her boyfriend Benny, of 5 months, and they had just gotten to their friend David’s’ house. David had a home on Silver Lake and it was the first official weekend of summer. Well technically it was his dad’s house, but he was always over in Eastern Africa volunteering. David himself was a great friend to Linae, and they talked about everything. Every time Linae and Benny would fight, David would be right next to his cell waiting for Linae to call or text him.
Great friends come every once in a while. So hold onto them for a life time, or waste the time you used putting them into your life.
“DAMN!!!!” David shouted as he walked out of his house and passed the maze of cars already parked. “What’s up David!” Benny said back, with no enthusiasm as he closed the door behind Linae.
“So much for 20 minutes late right?” David walked up and gave Benny a handshake.
“Well we could have been here an HOUR ago, but you know how-”
“-Don’t even start Benny.” Linae warned him. David already knew that nothing was going to go great this night, but he kept that smile on his face and passed them both a beer as he invited them inside. Around the second month these two have dated, so about half way through, they’re relationship had hit its turning point already. They were having constant arguments over small things, and the words “I love you”, had not been used at all. Linae wasn’t sure where this was going, but as long as she wasn’t alone, she really didn’t care.
David could notice that she was putting up with the verbal torture, but he also knew that Linae was an extremely independent person and could handle things her own. If not, then she would have said something a while back. David felt as if she was trapped and tried to discuss with her this situation she was in, but Benny was just not having it.
The party was very laid back; with plenty of people. It was the perfect type of party that anyone could go to, with no fights, no drugs, no nothing, just a bunch of drinks and music.
Benny had left his phone in Linae’s purse and she heard it go off when he had just left for the bathroom. So she reached in and read the text that he had gotten from Paige, “Hey babe, you ditch the bitch yet?”
Linae wasn’t sure she was reading it write, so she read it a couple more times.
Yep. She read it exactly how she had read it the first 12 times.
This wasn’t just a random text; they had been fighting about Paige since that turning point in their relationship two months ago. And this did it… this finally pushed her past her limits.
No more second guessing and just assuming.
No more arguments without any proof.
Everything that needed to be there is now physically there on his phone.
She was aggravated and it felt like someone was scratching at her nerves. She knew exactly who was doing the scratching too… Paige. She wanted nothing more than to kill her at the moment, but first she would “take care” of Benny.
Linae walked around the huge house, and finally reached the bathroom, then she went to knock on the door but it opened by itself. No one was there.
She continued her tour of the house and then there was the kitchen where all the drinks where. She peeked around the corner and besides the plenty of people who were standing around to get a drink, she saw Benny standing next to Paige. He had just handed her a drink and was looking around like a kid getting ready to steal his first piece of candy. Linae whispered to herself, “…don’t do it…” but he did it anyways. He reached over and started to kiss her neck.
Linae grabbed the nearest bottle from some kid from her English class and stormed Benny’s way.
“Benny!” Linae shouted and he turned around. Before he could make a full 180, she cracked that bottle off the side of his head and he fell back on the ground screaming, with his head in his hands. She wasn’t done there either; she cocked her arm back and leveled Paige with a broken nose.
David walked over and Linae ran out the front door.
“Where did Linae go?” David asked the entire audience, but no one knew.
Linae ran left out of the street and ran down a quiet street crying her pain away, but it wouldn’t go away. Her emotion pain was building up ever since they started this relationship, and now it just exploded, over the head of Benny and the nose of Paige. With the type of person Linae was, she didn’t deserve anything less than a perfect guy. Her cries were short and didn’t travel far, but they reached just barely enough to change her life forever.
As she crossed a 4-way stop, which was dead due to the time of night, she had just passed Bobby. Bobby was a descent guy himself and was still reminiscing about a lost cause that night. He had fallen in love with a girl that had already had a man, and eventually he knew he couldn’t have her no more. His first real heart break and he was out on the streets walking and remembering. He had just left his brothers house and did not want to see or hear from anyone. The remarks he heard from everyone were no directly saying “I told you so,” but most certainly revolved around that statement. His heart had put him through enough and he didn’t need to hear it from anyone else. He was a very sentimental guy and thought a lot. You would probably understand him more if you read his stories he wrote, listened to the music he loved to write, and followed his fictional blogs.
Bobby noticed her and something from an unknown part of his being told him to follow to her. He heard her short breathes and her pain being dripped from her gorgeous golden brown eyes. Nothing would explain WHY he would have followed her this night, but he did. He started to pick up the pace to match her speed, and as he did, it started to rain. Not pouring, but the type of sprinkling that would tease the dessert.
“Hey,” Bobby tried to announce to her, but she just kept running; he stayed with her.
“Hey lady what’s wrong?”
“Leave me alone.” She demanded as she cried even harder. If there was one thing that bobby was good at, it was reading a person. Other than the obvious sadness, her voice was not convincing at all and Bobby knew that Linae couldn’t be alone tonight.
“My name is Bobby.”
“…” she opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something. But nothing was coming out. Bobby’s anticipation was eating him alive; he would do whatever he had to tonight… just to know her name.
“My name is Linae” she said it as if she had just been hit with some sort of relief and started to slow her running down to a jog.
“That’s a very interesting name.” He replied as he met her eyes for the first time and nothing from there would ever be the same.
“Interesting?”
“Yea your name is very interesting. I know I could have said ‘your name is nice, or pretty’ and don’t get me wrong because your name is both nice and pretty too. But interesting just fits your name Linae.” She looked over at him and right away started to study his intentions. She could feel there was something different about this person, but she just couldn’t get to the conclusion… and she most definitely wanted to.
“What are you doing Bobby?”
“Running… what are you doing” he had almost melted when he heard her use his name.
“No. Answer the question; I know you know what I mean.” With everything that she said, he just grew more intrigued with her assertive, yet polite, tone of voice.
“Honestly I couldn’t tell you anything more than the obvious. I just saw you running past me, you looked sad, and I wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help you… is there anything I could help you with tonight? Would you like to stay over at my brothers with me tonight? It’s right around the corner and we can talk about it.”
“No, that fine, but thank you Bobby,” she stopped in her tracks and he turned towards her, “but would you stay with me tonight? I can’t be alone.”
Once she had asked that question, Bobby would never leave her heart for the rest of their lives, “of course…” and he keep jogging with her, “…come one” he welcomed her with a very warm and promising smile.
They ran more than 22 blocks together and in that time, they felt the full extent of the word “Love” that night.
Linae had a beta fish.
Bobby liked to play basketball, by himself though.
Linae loved the color pink but didn’t have an official color ONE favorite color.
Bobby loved Filipino food.
Linae was very organized.
Bobby was just a simple person.
Linae was lost.
Bobby found her.
They found a small grass hill to rest on and they waited three hours for the sun to come. They got together and spent several years together. He popped the question and she made him the happiest man ever. They had great years together.
They traveled a lot.
They got a puppy
They collected 1,000 DVDs.
They got matching tattoos.
They watched the sunset on a forbidden beach.
They took cruises.
They got great jobs.
And then they had two beautiful children and their dreams came true. They watched those kids grow up and at they’re late stages of life they visited that hill one more time and watched the sun come up, one last time… it was a perfect ending to an absolute beginning.
